Axonius

Axonius is a cybersecurity asset management platform that provides a unified asset inventory across IT and security systems. Its Workflows module automates governance and remediation activities, but users faced significant friction validating those automations before they went live.

The core problems: testing was only possible after a workflow was fully configured and saved, feedback was retroactive (you had to run the whole workflow to find a single broken node), and results only appeared in Run History after something had already failed. Nearly 30% of created workflows were abandoned, a clear signal of configuration friction.

I designed and owned the end-to-end experience of building, testing, and automating governance and remediation processes as part of the Workflows module. The centerpiece was an integrated Test Mode: a feature that lets users test individual nodes or an entire workflow directly inside the builder, using mock or live sample data, without running the full automation.

This gave users immediate visual feedback at the exact point of configuration, so they could iterate without losing context, shifting the experience from reactive debugging to proactive validation.
