Muscle Memory

In the video work Muscle Memory, Yuval Katz presents an unnamed figure reconstructing her memories. These memory-dreams take shape as performative dances, standing not only for personal memory but for a collective human one: what has been forgotten, what has been repressed, and what was never put into words.

The work draws on the genre of visual poetry; a poetic cinema in which the visual elements are built as a sequence of non-narrative images, producing a feeling rather than a linear story.

In Katz's treatment, the movements of live dancers were filmed, scanned and translated into three-dimensional space by computational means. The movements were rebuilt and met with other gestures, making a dance of many participants that can exist only in digital space.

Exhibited at the EDC Art Center, 30.10–28.11.2025. Photography: Daniel Hanoch.
