In a Changed Cloak
On "Augmented Reality Art"
The virtual "filter" is indeed the creation of the artist, but it never ceases to evolve and is created anew again and again on the faces of those who "wear" it. Unlike a painting, sculpture, film, or even a performance art show, "augmented reality art" is experienced actively by the users. The experience created while using the virtual mask allows one to be assimilated into it, and in doing so, the "I" identity is blurred and obscured, and with it the distance between the artist's body, the artwork, and the viewer.
The lecture dealt with the ways in which the visual overload that "filters" create allows for the erasure of not only the dichotomous boundary between the physical and virtual space, but also to redefine the boundaries of gender, and to expand the boundaries of the fields of culture and art.
This lecture took place in Van Leer Institute.
