Flamingo

Hoshen x AppsFlyer

Flamingo is a digital platform that aims to make gender and attraction identities accessible through short personal stories from "HOSHEN - Education and Change" - the education and advocacy organisation for the LGBTQ+ community in Israel.

Flamingo originated in 2016 as a design final project within the Visual Communication department at Shenkar College of Engineering, Design, and Art.

In collaboration with the Hoshen organization, the platform underwent a comprehensive redesign, evolving into its current form. Our primary objective is to enable users to explore and understand diverse identities by sharing personal stories and experiences from our community. Emphasizing the design process, we aimed to create an inclusive and insightful platform for everyone to learn and connect.

Overview

You can watch people of all identities explain their identity, coming out, relationships and more. The content is divided into "stories" [short videos] according to topics. You can choose to watch videos by identity [all bisexuals talking about bisexuality], by story [all coming outs] or by participant [all videos of a particular participant]. And the best option? - Feed of all videos together.

How does it work?

During the redesign, my goal was to modernize the platform with a mobile-first approach, focusing on teenagers with short attention spans. While the initial version was centered on the LGBTQ+ community itself, the new design targets teenagers and their parents, who may not be familiar with the community’s language. The aim was to create an approachable, trustworthy resource where they could learn and connect with others sharing similar experiences.

From outdated website to engaging platform

diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities in education are the foundations of a stronger and more innovative society. Supporting the LGBTQ+ community and ensuring access to equal education for all is part of our ongoing commitment to positive impact. The Flamingo website project, allowing access to both teens and educational staff is just one example of how we put these values into action, helping amplify voices and create meaningful change.
